Last night (Wednesday) saw the return of Dave Channels hit comedy show 'Taskmaster'. It's still hard to believe that folk haven't yet stumbled upon this genius comedy gem tucked away at 9pm but here we are, now 5 series in.

The show itself doesn't need much explanation, it's akin to a panel show, only its differences are much more sublime. The ever funny Greg Davies takes the titular role of the Taskmaster, aided by the brilliantly dry humoured Alex Horne as his loyal and faithful servant/score keeper/task setter/guinea pig. Together they set 5 comedians/occasional television presenter, (yes we're looking at you Richard Osman) a series of tasks that always live within the realms of the utterly ridiculous. Points are given on merit for completion of these tasks and always at the Taskmasters discretion, which sometimes opens up the gates to hilarious contestments from not only the comedians but also the audience, creating classic moments such as Dave Gormans Pea Gate and the legendary Joe Wilkinsons potato golfing moment.

By now, a seasoned Taskmaster fan knows that the only thing to expect is not only the sheer and utter craziness but also, very much, the unexpected.
As series 5 kicked off we were exceptionally glad to see this hasn't changed, if anything, it's just gotten much more bizarre. In the hot seat this series are Bob Mortimer, Sally Phillips, Aisling Bea, Nish Kumar and Mark Watson, each bringing their own eclectic mix to insanity island.

There are far too many highlights to pick and pin down from last nights opener, however a special shout out should be given to Aisling for her 'cuddlebot5000' during the slightly sinister 'Give Alex A Special Cuddle' task which borderlined creepy, to Nish 'how'd you like those apples' Kumar for his false luring of everyone into believing he was a sporting God with his chipping of a basketball into the hoop in one go which led to a climatic downfall in his sporting God status and to Bob, who proclaimed he had always been looking for a way to get inside his own car boot before cuddling Alex in the dark crevice of said boot with a banana and a can of deodorant and we couldn't end this without mentioning Sally covering Alex in various food stuffs, we never thought we'd see the day that a man had cake stuffed into his armpits on national television.

All in all the series 5 opener has been a craze fuelled train en route to insanity central and we're deliriously happy to have a ticket to ride. All aboard!! Next stop, episode 2.
