E4 announce ‘Vlogglebox where teens review online content

Posted By Serena Ruberto
To change the successful Gogglebox formula from adults to children is one thing, (which fortunately has proven just as successful) but to change the premise from TV to memes and video games is another entirely.

I worry about the longevity of a programme with its main focus as memes. One interesting thing however, is the demographic. It will feature the reactions and opinions of 18-24 year olds, - aside from the broader Gogglebox, and Gogglesprogs. It is fitting to include a cast of those who regularly respond to such material.

It will feature many different and sometimes on-the-move locations also, instead of the stationary couch-potato format we have become accustomed. Viewing and filming will take place in restaurants and buses, as well as other unconventional locations. However, will this just encourage young people to become even more uncommunicative in public places due to technology, and in particular social media?

An innovative take on the original programme, it does however, draw attention to the way in which younger generations now get their entertainment ‘fix’; consuming information in new and quicker ways than ever before.

But what do other people think about it?
As you can see the reception so far isn’t wholly positive. But what becomes of the latest in the Gogglebox franchise remains to be seen.

Vlogglebox starts on E4 on 18 June
