Vlogglebox Review – 3rd July ★★★

When watching Vlogglebox episode 3 I paid attention to the introduction. The overview of the programme made me interested in watching it. I thought this was a good way of capturing viewers attention.

Watching Ed Miliband at the radio station talking to the rock singer shows how younger people may not like this genre of music. This is most likely a stereotype but along with technological changes, a lot of people have different taste in music now rather than 20-15 years ago. I think there is a direct link, however, this could be a stereotype for this generation of people typically being more diverse than previous generations. I think it also suggests that Ed is trying to bring back his career following the election and him stepping down as the party leader. Sophie has a point in her comment when she says he has a face for radio as he will become more popular (so to speak) when people share the video of him at the radio station attempting to sing. Is this what happens to a politician following what they may consider a failed general election?

When watching the Kilted Yoga you can see how the viewers are a little unsure what to expect, other than being stereotypical and somewhat rude in saying that they can see, or are perhaps indicating they wish for a view underneath the kilt. This may have a negative impact or portray this generation to be quite vulgar and sex-orientated.

The Game of Thrones trailer shows action and suspense to attempt to engage people and lure them in to watch the new season. Iqra and Amira talk about Jon Snow and they allude to this seemingly being on of the reasons why people watch it. It applies to the “on demand” type of applications as there are programmes to watch but also catch up on. The aim of the trailer is to try and get people to watch the show. Whilst this is a programme I haven’t seen yet, looking at the way the vloggers reviewed the trailer as a whole, they have made me want to watch the programme when I’ve never shown an interest. Could this be free advertising? How many more people share my view?

Time for sushi initially appears to be weird and bizarre but it shows how times have changed with special effects and technology in general. Pete and Sophie comment about normality. Their point is valid about nobody is normal and everyone is different – a positive for the show and this may encourage other people to be more confident in themselves.

The vlog from UniLad with the pregnant seahorse shows role reversal but also indirectly links to how other traditional things in the 21st century have also changed such as women and men both having equal rights, but also being independent. The male seahorse and his behaviour makes the men wonder what all the fuss is about when a woman gives birth. Is this demeaning for women? Perhaps. Everyone is welcome to their own opinion in respect of this. I think it is key to note that there I more to this video than initially meets the eye!

Youtuber Poppy never speaks in her videos but may perhaps give the impression that everyone can express their opinion or even themselves to some extent via physical action rather than speech.  Everyone is mesmerised by what will happen in the video as there is no indication of what she may do next. The background is plain which adds to the suspense. Many people comment and ask what does she get out of the videos? Do they have a hidden meaning? I get that view too, although I think it will help other people who perhaps suffer with social anxiety to express themselves through social media and maybe not initially in the public eye.

The bath time video initially is portrayed to be a horror as every sound is emphasised, this even made me feel tense! Everyone says the same thing such as “get out of the bath” and “why are you still in there?!”, but they may not react the same way when a situation like this arises. Everyone jumps at the same time as well even though they may be expecting something to happen! The video overall is a metaphor for an anxiety attack. This brings out the realization that anxiety is common in society and people who suffer from this want to be in control. I think it is also an indication that things in life aren't always what they seem...

Elephants at a zoo show how they act in the same way humans do so they must have the same or similar instincts. It doesn't matter who you are or what species you are maternal instinct will still be there. It's quite loving to see it and this can make a viewer happier without intending to.

Challenge from Ladbible where someone consumed 50 eggs. This is the kind of stupidity on the internet at the moment and whilst this has been ongoing for years, it may encourage younger people to try this due to peer pressure. This is clearly show by the Welsh girl doing the same thing. Is Vlogglebox encouraging this too?

Watching the video of the cyclist and the dog was quite astounding. It showed a stranger putting himself in danger when nobody else really tries to help the dog who has escaped! The cyclist shows compassion through the head-cam he has and it captures a good moment where the dog is safely caught. Everyone has a sigh of relief including me! Animals are often in videos for various reasons such as to capture mostly animal loving individuals, and vlogging when using head-cams just adds to the suspense. Each Vlogglebox viewer watches in awe of the cyclist who not only prevented a dog from being run over, but also shows how he was selfless and put himself in danger.

Overall, episode 3 of Vlogglebox was somewhat entertaining and had a variety of vlogs to watch and give an opinion on. I’m looking forward to seeing what the producers have in store for episode 4!
