The Crystal Maze – Moffatt style

Posted By Robyn Kriese

In this week’s reboot of The Crystal Maze, Gogglebox’s queen, Scarlett Moffatt took on the maze with a team of Britain’s loved ‘celebrities’ whilst being led by comedian, Richard Ayoade. The stars attempted to complete the maze in aid for Stand Up To Cancer.

The first challenge was taken on by the mastermind, Joey Essex. Despite his determination to ‘frog jump’ between the planets being suspended by ropes, the reality star took on the physical course with a degree of caution and managed to secure his team their first crystal. Joey was astounded to find out that the maze was not the original from the 1990 debut and that shockingly, it was no longer presented by Richard O’Brien.

This crystal, however, did not last too long as team captain, Jodie Kidd had to use it to rescue Scarlett. The Gogglebox star had been set the challenge of mystery; where she had to endeavour a laser maze, jumping between the blinks of laser beams. Though Scarlett’s failing caused the team to lose out on two crystals, it was rather amusing to watch as the star declared that the reason she failed getting through the lasers was due to her ‘large arse’.

Next was Formula 1’s, David Coulthard, who ventured into the maze’s memory game of button pressing; which was a much easier task than the celebrity made it out to be. With the team being able to view this task, they aided Coulthard in remembering which colour button had which consequence.
David Coulthard failed the trial and error challenge and didn’t secure the team a crystal.

Steve Jones took on the maze’s skill game with confidence as team mates, minus Joey who was fixing his hair, egged him on. The ‘numpty’ as nicely put by Coulthard, secured the team a crystal with ease through using the tools placed upon the carousel.

Tonight’s team captain, Jodie ‘JK’ Kidd, took on the maze’s medieval zone where she was challenged to balance numerous apples on a pivoting tree to secure the crystal. Though challenging, the captain won the crystal for the team with seconds to spare and showed real skill in the challenge. The other challenge of the zone showed Steve Jones using his mathematic abilities as correct calculations had to be used to pass through the gate. Channel 4 dropped a subtle yet incredibly humourous question over the ‘Council of Knights’ voting to leave, where the results came in at 48% to remain and 52% leave, sound familiar?

In the Aztec area, the team worked verbally as a group to work out the correct pattern of the totem pole but failed. Coulthard took on the last challenge to raft across water and equalise a weighing scale. The star succeeded with ease and collected the crystal with over a minute remaining.

Overall through all the challenges set, the team secured 6 crystals and bagged a bonus crystal, giving them 35 seconds in the dome. The team won the optimum amount for Stand Up To Cancer and we all couldn’t be prouder of their perseverance through the game to guarantee the charity such funding
